Review: Stamina crew represent - the 4AM Kru are back with more of their life-affirming jungle workouts for the tail end of the night when the ravers need a little extra juice. This is their fifth drop on Embrace The Real, and once again they've done a bang up job of bringing some fresh ideas to a classic approach. 'Nobody Else' does wonders with a sample which sounds like it could belong to 80s soul diva Stephanie Mills, bringing a powerful dose of melody into the mix before cutting into needlepoint drum funk. '4AMK4' is a relatively chill roller, while 'Fire Is Our Friend' dices up jazzy breaks at a mean clip and dances nimbly on top of the subs and 'Hurt Me No More' swerves directly towards hardcore euphoria, pianos n' all.

Review: Sonic Force look north for inspiration and invite longstanding Finland junglists Aeon Four over for some for breakbeat choppage carnage. Building on their consistently firesome body of work on ODJ Dizzy's Straight Up Breakbeat, we're instantly zoomed off to space on the Nookie-like 'Dreamlab', we're pummelled into submission by the relentless slaps of 'Amalgam Funk' and given a lesson in law, cosmic jazz and murderation on 'Heaven Spots'. Last but not least 'Quantize Humanity' closes the show with a horn heaving call to adventure. Big percussive brush strokes and a murky, heady feel, you can be your bottom dollar this will be played at Rupture in the near future, if it hasn't already.

Review: 'As We Enter' is the first single from Nas and Damian Marley's collaborative album Distant Relatives and whether or not that influenced the also of this drum & bass producer we do not know. Musically there is little in common as this new EP shows - it is a hardcore mix of jostling amen breaks designed to be heard loud. 'Surrender' is backed with smeared pads that bring the soul and devastating low end bass, while 'Breezin' is a hyperactive sound that darts about all over the place. There is all out vocal wildness on 'Take Me' and last of all come more monstrous breakbeats and raved up synths on 'The Force.'

Review: ASC's Waveforms series is yet another outlet for one of the most prolific producers in any genre you care to mention. For the completists it's hard work keeping up, but how are you going to argue with tracks as fire as these? 'Waveform 01' has a lighter feel thanks to the aqueous synth tones slipping and sliding around the crisp breaks, but it still kicks off in earnest when the amens come knocking. 'Waveform 02' is a more heads down affair, but as always ASC creates scintillating atmospheres around the drums which make the listening experience that much deeper.

Review: ASC can't really do any wrong if you ask us, whether crafting suspensory ambient or laying down killer jungle cuts. It's the latter which he does here for the Spatial label in the form of this great looking multi-colour splatter vinyl. 'Infinity' has you adrift in the cosmos on dusty amen breaks, then '2097' is a tight and kinetic number with mystic lead and yelping vocal fragments. There is yet more deep space mystery to the melodies of 'What Lies Beneath' then humid closer 'Rainforest' has watery droplets falling down physical drum breaks that make you move your hole body.

Review: There's seemingly no end to ASC's offerings to the drum & bass world and so it continues on this beautifully packaged black splattered yellow 10" from the Waveforms series. 'Waveform 03' is an airy jungle excursion with explosive amens set off against vast expanses of pads, while 'Waveform 04' locks into a sleeker, techier approach where the icy atmospherics have more space to stretch out. No one is even close to the quality and quantity of ASC, and this is yet another essential addition to his huge legacy.

Review: Prolific under a variety of different aliases between them, Italian artists Big Hands and Banishsh continue to push the limits on the latter's new SM000 imprint. Sitting right on the edge of a variety of genre hinterlands, there are notes of jungle, dub, techno and IDM running throughout. Big Hands' 'SWGGN' vibes with the most upbeat feeling and flow while Banishsh's 'OP' version hits with much more of a dancehall bounce and sense of bass tension and the '55' deconstructs and dubs things out even more. Stark behaviours.

Review: Back to 94! Kemet reissue a seminal slab of breakbeat soul in the form of 'Loving' from Brain Killers and their long-time collaborator Lewi Cifer. Both acts taking the same sample and twisting it in their own way to create two parts, DJ Apache and DJ Unknown's Brain Killers operation goes for more of a party swagger and strong hip-hop and ragga influences while Lewi (who attained the name and reputation of Lewi Screwface due to his previous collabs with the Brain Killers) goes for more of a brutalist drum funk vibe. Still sounding future as hell.

Review: Rua Sound continue to lay down timeless jungle and breakbeat sorcery with this wide-armed set from Russ Brooker. Wrapping up a busy year with releases from the likes of Noroi, Prayer and San, Russ sets his deep space phasers to stun in three vivid ways; '97-99' lives up to its name with an industrial techstep you'd expect from such a title, 'Microfilm' goes for much more of a wild drumfunk vibe while 'Breathe' closes the EP on a slower, dreamier note. Full spectrum vision and textbook delivery, we suspect Russ will be back on Rua in the future.

Review: From Houston to Toronto; Dacamera makes his debut on the Toronto label with these two dreamy jungle excursions. 'Delancy Street' sits somewhere between film noir and post war Paris, the mournful trumpets yearning and wheezing through a Gauloise-thick atmosphere. Review: Bristol jungle lynchpin Dead Man's Chest is usually found steering the good ship Western Lore, but back in 2017 he did a series of drops for Ingredients billed as Trilogy Dubs. Originally available on the label's Bandcamp site, now the first volume is pressed up on 10" for some deck-based air time. 'Tears (Fantazia Version)' on the A-side leads with a sad-eyed r&b sample and some lingering piano, but when the drop comes its pure Reese power with a slant towards d&b rather than the jungle DMC's more commonly associated with. 'Rinsa' on the flip is a rowdy slice of Mentasm trickery - the perfect counterpoint to the lead track's solemn vibe.

Review: DanJet proclaims itself to be the first Russian drum & bass label, which might be up for debate, but at the very least it would have been one of the first when it first operated in 1997. Spearheaded by DJ Dan, the label drops its fourth vinyl and chooses to, erm, pay tribute to The Prodigy on the A-side via Dan and Dima Pulsar's 'Hyperspeed'. There are more than a few elements from Experience twisted into modern d&b forms on this track, no doubt sure to please older heads and younger generations of ravers alike. Barbitura's 'One In The Jungle' on the B-side is an all-out tear-out driven by sirens, dark side bass and blistering breaks.

Review: Tearin Vinyl first released this one back in 1994 and then Vinyl Fanatiks repressed it in 2019 on silver wax, and now the original label brings it back to the fore on yellow 12". It is archetypal jungle from DJ Krome & Mr Time that kicks off with 'Brock Out'. Soulful vocal samples open up before the crashing amens tumble down endlessly next to raw ragga vocals and plenty of wispy synth details. On the flip is 'London Talk' which is just as intense and physical, with old-school breakbeats and a scattering of vocals that add extra heat. Drop these and dancefloor destruction is guaranteed.

Review: Ready for a reload? Fresh from dropping his almighty debut album Firm Meditation on us earlier this year, Rupture roustabout Double O rewinds time on Nullpunkt for two hefty hits from his discography gone by. 'Love Of Jah' sets the tone. Last spotted around 2011, its soulful hurricane still hasn't died down one bit thanks to those pummelling drums and all-consuming pads. The 15 year old 'Niaibingi' sounds just as future, too. Originally released on Hidden Hawaii on his heartfelt 'For My Brother' EP, it still shakes all bones in a 20 mile radius whenever played.

Their four-tracker on Fabio's Creative Wax label kicks off with 'Don't Go Away', a cacophony of Amen breaks and celestial chords that tugs you in several directions at once. 'Foliage' then rides a deeper vibe with silky drums and cosmic ambient pads bringing a blissed-out feel. Review: It's been an exciting and prolific year for Eusebeia with releases on the likes of Future Retro, Samurai, Lore and Umai so far. Now Omni, too with 'Change Your Stars'; a dreamy escapade into the most cosmic corners of the jungle solar system. The title track put lightyears between the breaks and deep celestial voices and pads harmonise with tension in the background while 'Reconciliation' shimmers with an offkey soul that sits somewhere between Peshay and Orbital. Flip for 'Correspondence' where everything orbits around the brutalist breaks and 'Radiance' that lives up to its name with swooping jazzy keys and a strong sense of Detroit. Timeless.

Review: Time for another reissue from the mighty Kemet, one of the sturdiest pillars of the original jungle foundations. Here we find them celebrating the contributions and pure skill of James Stephens' FOI alias with this champion slab from 1994. 'Champion Of Champions' brings a strong sense of triumph before murking you up with the vocal layers and cut-glass edits. Deeper into the EP we hit version central as the other two cuts utilise elements of 'Champions' in different ways; 'Stop Pushing' comes with the big euphoric blasts while the Bonus Dud Plate gives a different twist again. Pure entertainment.

Review: Berlin born Felix K is a music composer and producer with a sound perfectly befitting his hometown, as proven here on Nullpunkt. This is an EP of stylish techno for darkened basements - the drums are heavy but never lack funk, the synths are scuffed metal but full of soul and the whole ambience of the tunes is gritty, grey and lo-fi yet they are all hugely alluring and evocative. There is a spooky sense of unease in 'Earth' and real dub brilliance to 'Who Are You.' 'Sobriquet' is a more intense rhythmic exercise with many layers or interlocking sound while a Deconstruction By Forest Drive West of 'Earth' is late night techno minimalism par excellence.

He's rolling neck deep with kindred soldiers; Radiokillaz and Fleck get wild on the breaks on 'Lakes On Saturn', Riffz dusts off the detuned rave stabs for that aggy hardcore flavour while VJ himself whips up some delightful breakbeat switchery that melts into a dubwise breakdown for momentary respite. Review: Critical Music welcome back Halogenix for another masterclass in upfront d&b technique from one of the best doing it right now. This is a sharply focused two track release, with the A-side playing on a time-honoured love of martial arts cinema through its speech samples about the titular 'Viperstyle'. The track itself is a snaking, tightly packed affair with some serious depth etched into the grainy bass distortion. 'Lana' heads further out with even more audacious low-end acrobatics to get a dance swerving sideways from the front to the back.

Review: Now for something completely different! Forever ahead of the game, Hidden Agenda's role in leftfield jungle soul has been undeniable and hugely influential since the mid-90s and it's amazing to see Jason back now and on such a maverick edge. Both of these cuts hit with a unique vibe and flavour that's so refreshing to hear. 'Dust' is a psychedelic wonderland that slides along with shimmering layers of percussion, guitar and keys. 'Cruel Sea' takes things a little darker as an edgy, unpredictable drive takes the lead. Think Krust's recent work on Crosstown Rebels and you're on the right planet. AKO Beatz never miss a punch.

Review: J Majik is of course a drum & bass don who not only knocked out killer DJ sets and productions but also headed up his own Infrared Records and made it into one the bastions of the scene from the mid-90s onwards. Thelatest from the label finds the man born James Spratling serving up the crushing breaks and doom laded synths of 'In The City', all designed meticulously and sure to make a massive impact. He then goes long on the 11-minute B-side epic 'Fantazia/Thanks & Praise' (feat Salva) which is a dark and hard hitting flurry of amen breaks and rave vocals.

Review: Overlook continues to bolster UVB-76's position as one of the front-runners in junglist innovation with this latest single. There's many sides to the Bournemouth producer's sound, as 'Mima's Room' guides us through deft breakbeat interplay, hazy jazz samples and fathoms deep atmospherics and pads which somehow sidestep the usual Good Looking reference points to head somewhere else. It's mellow and meditative, but speaking it's own truth thanks to Overlook's precise and potent production style. By way of contrast, 'After Hours' is a rasping D&B variation shrouded in nihilistic tones and powered by hard edged drums. It's a split personality of a record, and that makes it all the more exciting.

Review: The second release from Alex Egan's Utter sub label Quoth finds a link-up between Pearl River Sound and The Horn - two outlier operators with plenty to say when their machines collide. Pearl River Sound has been scattering outstanding releases on Further, Seagrave and Further Electronix amongst others, while The Horn comes from serious Devon techno heritage having cut his teeth on Evolution back in t'day. This is all about upfront material though, with a tendency towards microtonal braindance that veers from the self-explanatory collaboration 'Modular Grime' to solo forays into off-kilter, acidic electro funk. Nowhere near as derivative as a lot of current braindance, this is real freaked-out electronics for those with discerning taste.

With various releases going for over L150 on auction sites, this lands at just the right time and hits with crisp remastered charm. 'Dub Called Lion' is here for the junglists with its tricked out vocal sample and scatty drum craft. Finally Mediator gets involved with his own take on 'Desertism'. Watch out for those vocals! They'll whisk you away and you'll never want to come home.

Review: As the Rasta Vibez label nears its 25th release, the eponymous production outfit take care of this new orange 12", and do not muck about. 'So Mi Like Ii' is a barrage of amen breaks and drilling dub bass. It's overlaid with a flurry of extra drums and perc and has rasta vocals lighting it up even further. A real dancefloor filler. On the flip is the sun-kissed sound of 'Messed Up' with its patios vocals, dembow overtones and hard-edge drums eventually turning into another jungle workout. Killer stuff.
