Review: Utopia Originals kicks off with a brilliant first real which revives some early progressive and trance sounds from 1993. They still sound right on point today which shows what a visionary Michel Spiegel aka Nuw idol really was. He himself describes this as "ancient galactic music decoded and restored for 4th dimension understanding". Review: The always adventurous Especial label is back on its world travels once more for another cultured EP, this time from Jonne Lyden aka 53X. This is a widescreen bass exploration with trance-tinged steppas looking firmly to the future from the Finnish-born artist. He has a background in punk bands but a trip to Berlin turned his ear and now he makes experimental fusions that draw on everything from industrial to Berghain to Detroit for inspiration. His tunes are mostly started out as live jams and then edited into what we have here - club-ready sounds, rich atmospherics, acid, breaks and hypnotic rhythms.

Review: The sixth UFOs outing is another intergalactic adventure in sonic form and this time at the buttons it's New Balaance, a Mexican artist at the heart of a new wave. Space Jungle though is an apt title for this EP, which kicks off with some stylish breaks and nimble basslines overlaid with lush cosmic arps. 'Space Jungle' (feat Parallax Modulators brings a more pensive mood thanks to the sustained chords and deeper grooves, but subtle acid and chattery perc bring it to life. 'Grantourismo' is a lively and dynamic cut with more swirling synth work while 'Redemption' closes down this quartet of excellent explorations with a mix of 90s prog, techno and breakbeats all imbued with plenty of colour.

Review: Prog house has been cool again for a while now and that's how it should be. The sound, when done right, is as rewarding and enjoyable in a club setting as any of its genre-conferes. Soul Button makes a fine job exploring many different prog vibes on this Dual Realms of Sound album from the gently twirling melodies of opener 'Incendiary' to the more deep, stripped back moods of 'Secret Sense.' There is some pure and heavenly synth beauty to the ambient laced depths of 'Crescendo' (feat Rustboy) while further guests like Mashk, Terry Grant and Clawz SG all add their own charms to an array of other fine cuts.

Review: It was only going to be a matter of time before this Euros-trance-dance classic got a reissue. We're here for it frankly, and it sits perfectly at ease with the current trend of trance and progressive sounds to be back one vague., SASH! were originators of this sound that saw huge chart success back in the day and all these years later 'Encore Une Fois' still does the trick - it has the iconic melodic riffs and rasping bassline with the sultry female vocals and muted acid. La Casa Di Tokapi mixes it into something more raw with Italo style melodies and a Future Breeze mix is the most trance-y of the lot. Merlyn & Chuck Mellow mix that cut loose on wild progressive energy.

Review: Perennial psy-trance masterminds Sphongle are revisiting their revered back catalogue with some choice vinyl reissues, and on this occasion they're looking back to 2017 epic Codex IV. On this particular record Simon Posford and Raja Ram took things in a particularly mellow, ambient and downtempo direction. Ram's eloquent instrumentation glides through lush soundscapes sculpted by Posford and vice versa, as one of the most iconic partnerships in all of psy-trance demonstrate their vision well beyond the trappings of generic definition. Cut across three mighty slabs of wax, this is another flawless immersion experience from one of the best acts to ever do it.

Review: Rezpektiva keeps it real with a new offering from Christian Linder that explores the grey area where house, trance, and techno meet. 'Internal Flight' is the adventurous owner and it unfolds over the whole of the A-side with shimmering synths and thudding drum funk. 'Pleasure Extension' cuts more loose with playful melodies darting about the mix and bringing expansive cosmic feels. Review: We've very much enjoyed the return of trance to the underground and though purists will say the sound has never gone away, it sure has been some years since trance, for right or wrong, has been seen as cool. Now it is permeating all worlds from electro to techno to house and this EP does that as well as any we have heard recently. TYWI opens with the prog-tinged house banger that is 'Reality Checkpoint' complete with serene synth work and euphoric energies. After the more nimble Maruwa remix comes the cosmic trip that is 'Spellbound' and the lush and widescreen designs of the uplifting 'Laws of Motion'.

Review: Given that it was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the 2021 Stephan Bodzin album that shares its name, it is genuinely great to see 'Boavista' finally get a single release. Nestled here on side A, Bodzin's original version is utterly gorgeous - a smooth, life-affirming slab of picturesque house bliss full of rising and falling synthesizer lead lines, trippy mid-range motifs, drowsy chords and crispy drums. Innellea wisely chooses to focus on the more hypnotic and uplifting elements on the accompanying flipside remix, wrapping elements of Bodzin's original version around a trance-inducing groove. Throw in some bold, rush-inducing, progressive trance style riffs, builds and drops, and you have a genuinely terrific remix.

It was the first to push the style heavily and continues to find the best new artists to help develop it. This new one-sided 12" brings tithe Kevin de Vries and breakout talent Mau P for an epic main room prog cut 'Metro' that its lit up with pixelated chords and spraying pads, icy drum fills and grandiose arrangements that place you at the centre, gazing on in awe at the scale of the techno that unfolds around you. It's effective, to say the least.

Review: Grown-up techno label Kompkat has always served up its most dancefloor ready sounds as part of the Speicher series and it is now up to an impressive 129 installments. This one kicks off with Hunter/Game & U S H N U's collaboration 'Reload' which is an electric cut with bright synth lines shimmering about the mix next to thunderous claps and dark future vocals. On the flip, Bawrut cuts loose with rave stabs over dense percussive grooves with vocal snatches adding to the unsettling and boisterous mood of 'Clapa', which does indeed also have plenty of claps.

Review: There is a great backstory to this new one on Blue Hour: when Stockholm producer, DJ and promoter Maya Lourenco aka Parallax Deep was digging for music in the local Snickers Record store, she found two classic goa and psy trance tracks that particularly interested her. As such she snapped them up, took them home and began to work on her own distinctive edits of them, rearranging sections, cutting up bits and adding extra details while never getting too far away from the essence of the originals. Her edits of those two originals - 'Gobi Desert' by 100th Monkey & Tristan from 1995 - and 2000's 'Bunker' by Four Carry Nuts - are pressed up here and both sound brilliant.

Review: Slip on your Speedos and prepare for a dip in the warm waters of Swimtrax, which debuts here with an EP from Mark Lando that immediately suggests this label is going to be one to watch. First up are the gorging acid lines and rubbery bass rumbles of 'Formation', a mutant techno sound heavy on the low end. 'Scope' picks up the pace with speedy but no less slick kicks and icy hi hats while a mysterious and gloopy synth lingers in the foreground. Review: Spray is an alias for Berlin-based Irish producer Tiarnan McMorrow. In the past couple of years he's been building up his own Spray label with releases from Dimensions 23, Drua, Anoesis and Marijn S.
