"Bad Boy" Pete Vs Shnootz - "Acid Dub Tekno Lineage" (6:29)
Noise Frequency - "Lost Humanity" (5:49)
Review: AcidLab serves up more innovative findings from their hard techno research operations courtesy of an array of uncompromising talents on this new various artists release. Acid Steve kicks off with 'Working In An Acid Lab', a straight-ahead banger with bristling percussive loops and slamming drums. Chris Liberator & Sterling Moss & Athar then combine forces to fire futuristic acid techno out of a machine gun and across the dancefloor and BadBoyPete vs Shnootz's 'Tekno Sound' is amped up and urgent drum funk. Noise Frequency then shuts down with dark distortion in 'Lost Humanity.' This is only a second drop from this new young label but one that again establishes it as a vital imprint.

Don't Do It (4:48)
Don't Do It (Piano mix) (3:37)
Jacker (3:57)
Review: The Advent is now of course a solo act but once featured Mr G. After he left the sounds got more and more hard and less soulful as can be heard on this 1998 EP which now gets put out via Discos Perdidos, or 'Lost Records' as part of a new series started by Lisbon label Paraiso. For some reason it was never released back then as other things got in the way but thankfully it arrives now and is a full throttle offering. 'Don't Do It' is an all out assault with frosted synths and banging drums run through with chopped up vocal fragments. 'Don't Do It' (Piano mix) brings only a little melodic relief and 'Jacker' is another dusty wall of impressive techno sound.

Dream State (5:14)
Multiverse (5:46)
The Way (6:33)
Review: A fresh top-up to the vogue of 'trance-infused techno' by Alignment, the Berlin producer whose heavyset techno chops come straight to Charlotte De Witte's KNTXT label, which has launched the careers of several younger artists. Burbling Detroit voices command us to 'attack' through the opening droner 'Attack', an inception boomer if we've ever heard one. Followers 'Dream State' and 'Multiverse' timeslip through grit and dirt and arpeggios, getting faster and faster before Alignment shows us 'The Way' on the final roundoff.

Close Your Eyes (5:00)
Deep Space (5:38)
Dance For Me (5:20)
Fight For A New World (7:02)
Review: Charlotte De Witte's KNTXT label is one of new school techno's most influential and has very much helped to take techno into harder, darker, trance-tinged realms in recent times. Alignment is one of the artists who has helped with that and now serves up more blistering cuts on the Close Your Eyes EP. The title track is a monstrous opener with bright synths and serrated saw-shaped sounds cutting up the flat-footed drums. The hard techno vibes continue on 'Deep Space' and more trance energy washes over 'Dance For Me' which is decidedly 90s in vibe. 'Fight For A New World' closes down with the sort of hands-in-the-air energy of an epic festival anthem.

Caledonian Woofers (5:04)
Review: Shout out to Taapion, the French label that hits a nice 20th release milestone here. Blame The Mono is given the honour of serving up the sounds and takes no prisoners across a turbocharged plenty of techno and industrial. First up is the menacing 'Forlorn' (feat Herrclem) with its supersized drums and synths that tear up the groove. 'Front Left Rodeo' pairs up more large, heavy, raw drums with twitchy, spikes synths lines and 'Conepusher' is a brutalist stomper with vocals trapped in the midst of the noise. 'Caledonian Woofers' is a hands in the air trance-techno banger with hints of euphoria that get you all weepy.

Review: Mark Broom's Mutated Battle Breaks series is proving to be some of the most inspired music from the UK techno stalwart in years. When you're getting a Mark Broom record you expect a certain degree of techno functionality, but here he's ladling the rock solid rhythms with serious funk and flair. The offbeat synth groove of 'Tube' feels like a nod to Robert Hood's pioneering style, but Broom does plenty to jazz the music up in his own way. 'HF2 (Bass Line Mix)' features some cheeky acid and a subtle swing to the hats which will get you locked in hard, and then 'TEST25' fires off an absolute stormer with some of the toughest finger-clicks you'll have ever heard in a peak time techno monster, laden with disco string stabs.

Liquid Tank (5:44)
Review: You can always depend on Ali Wells' mighty Perc Trax for the most brutal industrial strength tackle and its latest release certainly delivers that. Scottish enfant terribles Clouds take up the reins on TPT 096 titled Clubmatter. All the classic tropes of 90s dance music are mashed together in an unholy mixture on the foreboding energy of 'Ravesight', heading into post Y2K peak time techno on the functional main room affair of 'NRG - Density' and 'Corestyle' respectively - the latter's injection of classic trance arpeggios adding to its adrenalised effects. Finally, the Perth drug legends go out all guns blazing on the pummeling 'Liquid Tank' with its foreboding bassline underpinned by the most visceral kicks.

Blacklord (5:36)
Review: With Jealous God, Eerie and L.I.E.S on his C.V. they don't come much more approved that Domenico Crisci, but few would be prepared for the onslaught that leaps out of this first release on Summa Cum Laude. "The Violinist" champions distortion as a weapon, running everything through a fuzz pedal in a most unrelenting of fashions. It's certainly not for the feint-hearted, and all the more powerful with it. Meanwhile "Return" would sound brutal in any other context were it not for what came before, all slamming, grubby drums and the noises that splay off them. "Blacklord" them manages to push the vibe further back into the red with a searing throwdown to finish the EP off in a masterful display of intensity.

Supply & Demand
Supply & Demand (Benji303 Rugs & Subversion remix)
Fukshouldidodat
Muthafucka
Review: A limited and rare acid techno release, featuring 3 room-shaking tunes and a remix. Opening track 'Supply & Demand' is head-spinning with its abrasive synth rhythms, a perfect piece for the middle of the night when any chance of sobriety has gone out the window. Later on in the evening, Benji303's 'Rugs & Subversion remix' - a tongue in cheek play on the vocal sample from 'Supply & Demand' - focuses more on the tracks incredible drumline, and moves the sound in a more traditional Eurodance direction. 'Fukshouldidodat' returns back to form with its electric energy, it's acidity would make short work of the crowd in the rave, and 'Muthafucka' shuts it all the way down, easily the weirdest and most memorable track of the 4, sounding like somebody took 2 tabs of acid and started thrashing on a theremin. This is everything acid techno can and should be.

Marcio M - "Squadron 303" (7:43)
Review: Melbourne, Australia based label Tension Music has unleashed a powerful new vinyl release called 'Tense Trax #2' featuring four blistering acid tracks. Kicking off the EP is 'Mind Blowing Side Effects' from Rennes, France-based Dica. This track showcases his signature high-octane sound that has made him a sought-after artist among acid aficionados. Following up is the UK's Bad Boy Pete with 'My Pain Is Forever' featuring dark synth stabs, pounding percussion and samples from the classic horror film Hellraiser - no more Mr. Nice Guy! Over on the flip, Brazilian trio The Southside Warriors (Acid Chochi, Marcio M. & Tiago Santos) serve up 'How Do You Like That', a groovy 303 acid thumper with a growling bassline and a sturdy beat. Finally, Southside Records boss Marcio M. delivers 'Squadron 303,' a fast-paced banger with a vintage feel, featuring modular synth madness and an infectious vocal hook.

Review: DJ Disrespect again shows no regard for the rules of electronic music on this new and visceral outing on 777. It is a 12" he dedicates to "some of the feelings associated with the tribulations of mental issues" and that's reflected in the sounds which are dense and full of duality - drums going one way, coarse synth textures and percussion puling in another direction. On 'Energy Rush' screeching synths tear through the middle of the high tempo techno drums and 'Focus' is a compelling and parboil linear banger. If his mission is to unite people and offer comfort and community with his music, DJ Disrespect has succeeded here.

Waves Of Fear
The Way Out
Different Ways
Review: As the title suggests, Some Other Place Volume 2 is the second installment of a triptych of releases from The Exaltics for The Clone West Coast series. As with previous music from the Solar One boss, the four tracks here see The Exaltics look to both American and Dutch schools of electro but the results are nonetheless distinguished by his own unique signifiers. The title track sets the tone nicely as waves of sumptuous blurred noise ride a supple skeletal rhythm, whilst "Waves Of Fear" lives up to it's paranoid title with a marauding low end bass line the dominating element on a classic slab of darkside electro. "The Way Out" is perhaps the most conventional track here, with Witschakowski laying down an atmospheric but club ready 808 workout which is still a cut above thanks to the German's arrangement skills. Which leaves room for the slower, weirder and mushy excellence of "Different Ways".
