&ME & Black Coffee - "The Rapture Pt III" (8:06)
&ME - "LIFE" (7:35)
Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***

&Me and Black Coffee make for something of an Afro house dream team here. The latter has long been this sound's pin-up and has gone from playing in South African townships to producing with Beyonce and winning Grammy Awards over the last decade. Now deep in his latest Ibiza season, he unveils collaborative track 'The Rapture' (Pt III), a deep rolling cut with spine-tingling chords and a rich atmosphere. &ME then goes solo for 'LIFE', a shuffling percussive groove with spoken words and enchanting chords to make for a classy two-tracker.

Machines Of May (7:25)

Dark As Night (7:43)
Swiss (6:26)
Review: Since returning to action in 2016 after a seven-year break, 1990s techno survivor Lee Renacre AKA 100 Hz has released some of the best music of his career. This fine four-tracker marks the long-serving Londoner's first outing on Romanian imprint Amphia, who are best known for serving up sparse, minimalistic tech-house. As you'd expect, there's a slightly fuller sound here, though sonically it's as pleasingly druggy and mind-mangling as much of the imprint's output. Renacre brilliantly flits between trippy, arpeggio-driven, house-tempo techno (the otherworldly 'Machines of May'), dubstep-influenced UK bass/techno fusion ('Gadget', which echoes the ethos of his early 100 Hz releases with James Chapman), intergalactic tech-house ('Dark as Night'), and frankly filthy low-end wobblers ('Swiss').

Review: 49th Floor is a pseudonym for Stefano Curti from The True Underground Sound of Rome, originally applied to a sole 1992 release Night Passage. Vibraphone always do a fine job of folding time in on itself from these glory days of Italo house up to the present day, and so it feels natural for a new 49th Floor 12" to arrive despite more than 30 years since the last one. 'Zamani' comes on four different versions which give plenty of options to deep diving DJs, from the full-spectrum, pad-soaked propulsion of the 'Body Mix' to the raw acid throwdown of the 'Magic K Dub Remix', a straight up dreamy 'Deep Mix' and swirling, splashy 'Dub Mix'. The quality never dips, whichever twist in the tale you opt for.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Slight scratch on vinyl surface, doesn't affect playback ***

The mighty Defeated has got a fun package on its hands here with some fat disco and house anthems primed and ready for big room summer fun. A'Studio's 'SOS' (feat Polina - Skylark remix - Nic Fanciulli edit) is chunky house with a hooky vocal and rolling groove designed to sweep you up and away. Chloe Caillet then remixes Tensnake's classic 'Coma Cat' into a hands-in-the-air house stomper with epic strings. Harry Romero's sweaty 'Revolution' gets its drums buffed up and well swung by a House Master's Edit and Prunk & Rona Ray steal the EP at the last with their lush vocal house cut 'Keep It Simple.'

Plazeg - "German Physicist" (6:03)
Review: Poggio and Gabriel Belabbas' cheeky Positive Future label is back once again to bring some playful mischief to the contemporary electro-techno scene. This split release showcases some of the artists orbiting the label, kicking off in spooky style with Aline Umber's 'Hypnotized', which features a pitched down vocal from Poggio no less. Juaan's 'Talt' is equally steeped in B-movie freakery and tongue-in-cheek samples, while Ramez takes things deeper on bass-toting dirtbag joint 'Devil Selectro'. Plazeg finishes the record off with the scattershot bleep feast 'German Physicist', which has a whale of a time plying its own line in gleefully macabre club music.

Funk For Peace
Review: Ibiza-based Londoner Kellie Allen is making increasingly vital moves of late. She has played all over some of Europe's finest parties and dropped, or is about to drop, music on labels such as PIV Records and Boogeyman. This one on House Puff in France is a perfect indication of her sound - classically informed house music with fresh perspective. 'Back In The 80's' is a New Jersey vibe, 'I Know' has a spaced out synth feel and 'Parisian Summer' is more kinetic and future-facing with slick grooves making you move. Closer 'Funk For Peace' is another nice and breezy house cut perfect for balmy nights.

I Love You
Cat: SF 020. Rel: 17 Oct 23
I Love You (5:41)
I Hate You (6:09)
Review: German progressive house duo Andhim specialize in bringing out the genre's sentimental side, and their latest single 'I Love You' is a masterful case in point. Describing their sound as "super house", the pair evidently only choose the most serene and gut-punching sounds and samples going in, and 'I Love You' exemplifies this, with its knife-edge, repetitive vocal and swellingly pink chords, which recall the French house climaxes of The Paradise or Daft Punk, and/or the more recent, well-rounded post-10s uplifts of Bicep. Of course, the B-side must provide the mirror image, on which the equally powerful emotion of hatred is explored. Hatred isn't exactly a house music go-to, but the psychologist in us feels compelled to remind the reader that love and hatred, aren't binary opposites, and are closer together than we often think!

I Figured Out A Way To Be Outside (9:24)
Einatmen (7:59)
Piscot (7:16)
Review: UK label After Hours looks across Europe to the talents of Romanian minimal man Vlad Arapasu. He serves up classic, turn of the millennium final where it is all abstract sounds, farting bass and weird modulations. 'I Figured Out A Way To Be Outside' is a prime example of that with its pinging kicks and soupy pads, whirring spacecraft sounds and bulbous synth droplets. 'Einatmen' is more busy but just as heady with warming sub bass holding together a scattered mix of dry hits and distant chimes, subtle melodies and delicate kicks. 'Piscot' rounds out with another loosely held together fusion of vocals, sine waves and crunchy drum work.

Review: Ardeleanu Bogdan first appeared on Atipic back in 2019, and now the up and coming producer returns with another four exercises in dub techno informed minimal which should go down a storm in long-form DJ sets where there's time to stretch out and get a little psychedelic. The opening track on the record creates a vibrant soundscape teeming with movement from interwoven arps and space age pads, while the A2 locks into an elegant strain of electro capped off with hi-tech jazz flourishes. The B-side kicks off with driving machine soul doused in mellow, melodically-rich synth shapes, then the closing track completes the picture in a mellifluous blur of squidgy leads and undulating low end.

Review: Long revered US house label Underground Quality does exactly what it should give its name. The label run by Jus-Ed has rarely put a foot wrong and this new limited 12" from Danielle Arielli is another smoky outing for heady back rooms and cosy basement spaces. 'Love Child' opens with old school vocal rapture over dusty analogue drum work and will turn any dancefloor into a cauldron of intensity. 'That House Jam' (feat Sofie Jackson) is another jacking party jam and 'Uno, Dos, Tres!' then brings some turbo charged house with old school stabs before 'All Night Long' brings steamy and emotive vocals. A superb EP that introduces a hot new talent.

Review: The twisted and trance-infused progressive techno sound of Les Disques De La Jungle is one we have been keen to hear more from, and here we have it: a new EP featuring some of the artists who have already dropped heat here. AV1 goes first with the crispy metal drums and warped synths of 'Meta2' then Fsk24 & Felix Dulac combine for the hammering tech-funk of 'Un Eclair Dans La Nuit' which would have been a Tyrant classic back in the day. Fsk24 then hooks up with Nils for the stomping and noen-lit jungle-tech of 'Toomai Des Elephants' before partnering with Solal Reyes for the tripped out but driving closer 'Tongue Twister'.

Blacker (4:17)
Cubafro Con Amigos (4:17)
Review: A reissue of two historic, important cuts by The Ballistic Brothers. 'Blacker' and 'Cufabro Con Amigos' helped define the transitional crossover between early 90s funk and breaksy electronica in the UK. The Ballistic Brothers were the sonic thesis, antithesis and synthesis of Ashley Beedle and David Hill, both of whom later went on to work behind the scenes in the music industry, but whose earlier contributions are still duly noted. 'Blacker' appeared on their earliest album, The Balistic Brothers vs. The Eccentric Afros Volume 1, and was symptomatic of the sonic stirrings of breakbeat, acid jazz and broken beat at the time, channelling a string-laden suspense, and a wise, sampled vocal snippet from Gil Scott Heron. Heron's wisdom undercuts the track, and hears his musings on race and moral superiority.

Review: Dutch label High Fashion always deals in house music at the more funky and accessible end of the spectrum. It's got a few decent remix EPs dropping right now and this is one of them with the one and only Michael Grey at the buttons. He brings his famously catchy synth loops and warm, irresistible bassline to plenty of well chopped vocals. His first remix of 'Genie' is a real vocal belter with mid tempo drums and 80s synths and the dub strips things back a little to allow the grooves to shine.

The Very Polish Cut Outs: Sztossingery EP (remixes) (B-STOCK)
Review: ***B-STOCK: Case slightly cracked, product in perfect working order***

The latest missive from the Very Polish Cut Outs imprint, whose back catalogue is mostly made up of inspired re-edits and reworks of obscure old musical gems from Poland, is a little bit different. It sees a wealth of the label's artists rework tracks from Polish rapper Belmodawg's cult 2021 mini-album 'Hustle As Usual'. As far as we can tell, they're mostly quite radical rebuilds, but that's no criticism since there's tons to get the pulse racing throughout. For proof, check the gorgeous Italian dream house-meets-hip-house revivalism of Schmoltz's version of 'Pappadelle Alla Arrabbiata', the bleep and breaks revivalism of Speek's mix of 'Wte I Wewte', Polotronic's bouncy, late-80s garage-house re-fix of 'Poppyn Universe', and the dreamy d&b flex of Pejzaz's version of 'Te Tereny'.

Beyond Heaven II: Chicago House Party Flyers Volume II: From 1981-1992
Cat: 778028 Rel: 16 Oct 20

Full colour 96 page paperback book
Notes: With the original Beyond Heaven out of stock, Almighty Insane were at a crossroads . But when Mario "Liv It Up" Luna dug up a long-forgotten cache of material, and from that we bring you Beyond Heaven: Volume II. It has the same format as Volume I, but with all new flyers documenting an extended window of history, from early "mobile discos" that reflect roots of the underground movement before the term "house" was even coined, to the emergence of a new generation of house DJs and artists in Chicago inspired by the pioneers of the genre. As with the original, this book reflects a mix of figures and parallel movements that were entangled with the world of house. From dance groups to party crews, alongside promoters, labels, and record stores, both well established and lesser known-all are points of departure to good memories and/or further investigations into one of the greatest eras in the history of Chicago music, with a legacy that is profoundly influential to this day.

Review: Around 2008 The Black Dog landed on Soma with Radio Scarecrow. At this point the shape-shifting project was well-established as a separate entity from the early Warp years, as original member Ken Downie was joined by Martin and Richard Dust to extol a faintly gothic strain of electro-techno romanticism. 'Ripheadv9' is a fine case in point - a three-dimensional sound world shrouded in grey cloud but shot through with flashes of technicolour light. There's industrial pallor, synthetic melancholy and a heavy payload of atmosphere in abundance on this finely sculpted modern masterpiece, which has been revived with even greater detail thanks to this remastered CD edition on their own Dust Science label.

Review: Blunted Dummies was a short-lived house project from Shawn Caesar and Ty James, but they scored a minor hit with their 1993 record 'House For All'. The dreamy, rugged deep house cut got signed to John Acquaviva and Richie Hawtin's Definitive Recordings, which was serving as a house-oriented sub label of Plus 8 where they Windsor crew could explore a particular kind of house they enjoyed. The original version is certainly an unusual jam which makes it all the more special, but just as important is the heavyweight roster of remixers, from Hawtin in a rare house mode with his 'House 4 All Robots Mix' and Eddie Richards and Acquaviva amongst the other quality versions, now all repressed by Italian label Orange Wedge.

Review: Here comes Boink pulling up to Curb Side with some of that signature deep house niceness we so appreciate round these parts. There's a healthy amount of swing driving 'Nor Wee', not to mention an abundance of twinkling melodic touches that help the beats go down easily. 'Have More Fun' is all about a naughty bassline and subtle threads of atmosphere, while 'Just A Doop' lets the chords lead the way (but not at the expense of some cheeky low end action, naturally). 'Contrast Stitch' is a more pumped up workout with a garage house beat you can sink your dancing teeth right into, and a perfect blend of bouncy sampling and silky chords for the full dancefloor package.

Legend of the Madrid scene Casbah 73 is back with a new one for Kraak & Smaak's Boogie Angst here, featuring four new sweltering tracks. The message of environmental politics on 'Let's Invade The Amazon' sung by Hawaii by-way-of Texas' Tonya Wilcox is backed by a low slung disco arrangement, followed by the late night boogie-down instrumental 'Pale Splash Of Blue'. Over on the flip, remixes come from some right legends of the scene; Yoruba Soul takes the track deeper as expected, while Razor N Tape main man JKriv goes for a tropical vibe.

Review: Monsieur Dimitri from Paris works his magic on Casbah 73's organic disco grooves with a remix treatment that surpasses all expectations. Casbah's original track may sound like a band-recorded take with added production sheen, but it's actually a deceptively well-made track recorded by a talented solo artist. Dimitri brings added wompy disco-house heat to the track in two parts, with the first part focusing on the more bangerific elements of the original, and the B (part two) stripping things back to focus on the more minimal, solo dubby parts.

The in-house team tackles a wide remit of sounds and adds their own spin - here we start with the kaleidoscopic colours of 'Sahar-Pesok' with its icy electro rhythms and serene sense of synth craft. 'Engineer Pohoj' is a darker bit of cyborg funk to jack the floor and 'Football' then flips the script with some big disco samples over broken beat rhythms that bring fun and originality in equal measure. 'V Shapke Profilja' closes out with some wonky bass and lush neon synth work for 5 am cruising.

Clearly, the relative obscurity of the names on the CD make this the duo's ode to 'hidden' house. Their original track 'Higher Elavation', meanwhile, cements this mysterious mood with surreptitious basses and smoggy pads.

He starts cheerily and colourfully with 'Fessor of Dabz', a sonically inviting fusion of bouncy synth sounds, vibrant melodies, bubbly bass and snappy drums, before opting for a more turn-of-the-millennium UK tech-house sound (think Circulation and you're close) on 'Questions of Today'. The Dutch producer updates this sound further on the glitchier and slightly funkier 'Neutral Tones', before combining dreamy electronics with rubbery tech-house bass and drums on 'Angel in the Sky'.

Mind Wipe (7:05)
Our Mission (5:51)
Praying For Better Days (5:59)
Review: ***B-STOCK: Outer corner slightly damaged in transit, product otherwise in working condition***

Christian AB is making low key waves with a self-steered angle on hardware house and techno which packs plenty of personality into the time-honoured tradition of box jamming. Four years since the last exemplary 12" on London In Transmission, AB is back with another grip of charismatic club cuts. 'Mind Wipe' is the logical choice for the A side, riding a warm and fluid monosynth bass hook, classic boxy 707 drums and eerie pads to inject a little spooky mystery into the dancefloor. 'Our Mission' is a more adventurous track which dusts up the drums good a proper and lays the psychedelic textures on heavy, but not at the expense of the beat of course. 'Praying For Better Days' is a rousing finale, using some anthemic organ chords as the lead hook for an uptempo jacker par excellence.

Decisiveness (6:03)
0 Room For 1 (Make Some Space) (4:43)
Divider (5:47)
Connector (6:04)
Review: Danish DJ/producer C.K. of the Aarhus-based Regelbau collective returns to his PRS imprint with four cuts on the No One Cares EP - and it's a fairly diverse offering. Starting on the first side with the trippy Berlin-style retro house vibe of 'Decisiveness', followed by some late 90s intelligent drum 'n' bass on '0 Room For 1' (Make Some Space). Over on the flip, the emotive dub tech house of 'Divider' was the real stand-out track, followed by one more mesmerising and minimal affair in the form of the deep cut 'Connector'.

Moser
Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve, product unopened & in excellent condition***

Moments' latest release showcases the work of debutant artist Come Closer. There's not much information floating around about the identity of the act or their inspirations, though we can tell from the sound of the two tracks here that they enjoy fusing vintage and contemporary electronics with live instrumentation and nods to various musical styles. On A-side 'Boudoir', they join the dots between the far-sighted late '70s electro-disco of Giorgio Moroder and Rinder & Lewis, with the live instrumentation of Balearic nu-disco. Turn to the flip for 'Moser', a gently sun-splashed fusion of deep house sunniness and locked-in nu-disco rich in sustained organ chords, funky guitar licks, immersive pads and subtlyLatin-tinged beats.

Review: Joey Corry dropped his debut album 'Another Friday Night' at the start of October after a busy year releasing plenty of music from it. The LP features several of his biggest bangers from over the years plus lots of new material and some special surprises. Part of his new and more prolific approach to releasing has been to "collaborate with more artists and freshen up my sound" and the man who is known for writing the Love Island anthem 'Sorry' has certainly done that. This deluxe version comes on nice translucent orange wax.

Crazy P Curate Volume Four (B-STOCK)
Cat: CRAZYP C4. Rel: 01 Jan 90
Ray Mang - "Osea Island"
Tigerbalm - "Cosmic Union" (feat Joy Tyson)
Ruf Dug - "Vape Quarter Rhythm"
Tuccillo - "Siroco"
Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged & record has light surface marks/scratches, otherwise in excellent working condition***

20/20 Vision and Crazy P continue their long and fruitful relationship with a fourth volume of carefully curated and super-fresh new cuts as part of this fine ongoing series. Scandi-disco don Ray Man opens up with typically lush cosmic melodies and loose-limed nu-disco beats with more than a hint of funk. Tigerbalm then heads into a tropical oasis with 'Cosmic Union' (feat Joy Tyson) which has Afro rhythms and steamy vocals bringing the heat. Ruf Dug shows his multi-genre chops again with 'Vape Quarter Rhythm' which is part proto-house cut and part dreamy Italo bliss out with rave whistles and hands-in-the-air chords. Ibiza's Tuccillo closes out with one of his signature Balearic gems in 'Siroco', which is as breezy and carefree as cocktails by the sea at sundown.

Again & Again (7:37)
Review: Following releases on Windmuhle, Playedby and HAZE, Romanian producer and DJ Alin Crihan returns with his latest EP which comes out via Alsi's Elements imprint. There's three quality tracks on the Recurring Figures EP; the majestic and fantastical production of "Periodic Arrangement" will have you in awe by way of its mesmerising soundscape underpinned by elaborate polythyrhms. Over on the flip, go deep into the Transylvanian woods on the brooding twilight deep of "Regular Intervals" and finally something strictly for the afterhours dancefloor on the arcane trance induction of "Again & Again".
