Edward - "Mind Loop" (6:16)
D.Tiffany - "Sun Trip" (7:54)
Henry Hyde - "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim" (6:18)
Review: The ever-charitable Needs project continues apace with another stunning cast of characters offering up their dancefloor creations to help a good cause - the environmentally-focused Cool Earth NGO. On this 12", Eris Drew delivers the uplifting breakbeat celebration of "See You In Snow", while Edward takes things deeper with the tripped out minimal house groove of "Mind Loop". D. Tiffany brings a particularly crafty approach to her own drum funk science on "Sun Trip" and Henry Hyde cools things down with the mellow, new age 2 step stylings of "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim."

You Always Hank Bank One Time
Another Spring Lover
I'm Gonna Be The Everything
Slick Nickle Pladium Investment
Review: Adeen Records is on a roll right now and this time out they welcome the Detroit hero that is Marcellus Pittman for a new and beguiling four-track 12". Known for his work with The 3 Chairs collective as well as his solo jams, this Motor City mainstay opens up with 'You Always Hank Bank One Time' which is a real mental maze of rickety loops and blurts of degraded synth. 'Another Spring Lover' is another rusty and lo-fi piece of archetypal Detroit house that is very clearly machine music but with a unique sense of human soul. 'I'm Gonna Be The Everything' is a raw drum track with sparse, heartwarming chords and 'Slick Nickle Pladium Investment' is a knackered downbeat hip-hop closer. Magnificent.

Melted Vein
Review: Styrax has the rights to a great reissue of some long-lost but enduring classic cuts from Merv here. Written in 1995 and 1998 they are archetypal dub techno rollers that draw as much from the European school of Basic Channel as they do the lo-fi depths of Detroit. 'Dust' opens up with warm and humid chords over elegant and rolling beats that cannot fail to sweep you up, then 'Melted Vein' offers a more driving but no less hypnotic sound, this time with sleek tech pads peeling over the airy hi hats and bouncing kicks to take you up amongst the stars. Perfect for those zoned-out, low-lit basement moments at 5am. Quality tackle.

Switch The B
Review: Brawther and Tristan Da Cunha's Dungeon Meat label is back with another massive platter of heavyweight house, this time from Dutchman Dennis Quin. He wastes no time in getting down to business with 'Naimus' layering up rock-solid kicks and steel-sharpened hi-hats with yelping vocal stabs for an energetic rave-up. After that comes the equally high octane and sweat-inducing 'Buzz Cracked' before 'Switch The B' brings a raw and naughty hint of garage swing to its monstrous drums. These tunes have already been road tested at places like NYC Downlow and Houghton Festival to great effect, so there is no doubting their ability to make an indelible mark.

Review: Amsterdam's Makez bring their old school unfused house sounds to Adeen Records in collaboration with Balance Alliance on this fresh new 12" which also features a remix from UK mainstay Mr G. 'Do It' brings super smooth chords and a prickly deep house beat that will get any floor going. Then comes 'Close 2 Us' which is even better - lush and lazy chords are draped over pent-up deep house dynamics with gorgeous vocal coos and jazzy keys also bring extra heart and heat to the mix. 'Beat Of Life' is a more busy percussive sound and then comes 'Love You More' as remixed by the don Mr G who brings his signature smokiness and basement house vibes.

Review: Z@P and Stonem, both hailing from Uruguay, team up for a fresh and futuristic of the sonic character of their local acid techno scene. As functional and utilitarian as the robotized music heard therein is the name 'Split #1', which indeed shows that this is an EP flaunting two tracks by each artist; Z@P's tracks are groovier, funkier and more alkaline, opting for the sounding like the inner bloopings of a robotic mechsuit. Stonem's tracks deeper and more expansive by contrast, working in more arpeggiations and dramatic accompaniments, as if to suggest our protagonist has exited the mechsuit and confronted the dystopia of their now wartorn world.

Landing (Kyle Hall remix)
Review: Label boss El Prevost makes a welcome return to No Speakers after it's been on something of a break. Thankfully the quality levels remain high here as he kicks off with 'Catastrophizing', a brilliantly bass-heavy cut with broken beats to make you sweat. On the flip, 'Landing' has a more inward sense of reflection with its fizzing synths and deep space atmospheres making an indelible mark. Last of all, the magic of Detroit looms large with a superb remix by Motor City mainstay Kyle Hall. His version of 'Landing' brings some jazzy melodic vibes and one of his trademark deep house and bumping grooves. This is another essential 12" from No Speakers.

Review: Alex Font follows up on a successful run of double pack drops on acme with a charming new 12" for Purple Print. As ever, the minimal tech house standard bearer straps his ideas to sleek, refined grooves, but it's the musicality which marks this record out as an essential purchase. 'Hablame De Ti' is cast in melancholic synth refrains and forlorn vocal murmurations which drip with pensive mood to take the dancefloor somewhere deeper than usual. 'El Instrumento Del Barrio' has its own sentimental story to tell, this time led by expressive piano work which glides over the steadfast rhythm section. Meanwhile scene stalwarts Arapu and Brawther are on hand to deliver on-point remixes which amp up the club-ready appeal of this standout EP.

Review: James 'Bursnki' Burnham aka Constant Sound label boss and garage head Instinct is showing no signs of running out of ideas despite having put out such a high amount of high-class club weaponry in the last few years. He goes big once more with this latest 12" which subtly features the iconic vocal cries from Moby's 'Go' but repackaged in a shuffling and banging garage groove with dark synths and wonky bass. On the flip is pure grade bassline track, 'Bassline Track.' It'll take you back to the days when this northern take on garage was all the rage, and why not?

Review: When not knocking it out of the park with his garage alias Instinct, James Burnham is somehow also managing to find time to revert to his original Burnski moniker and the minimal and tech sounds with which he first made his name. On this latest 12" via his own Constant Sound label, 'Boom' is a rude boy jam for sure - the filthy bass and low-end wobble are accompanied by ragga vocals up top. 'Toxic' is a more straight-up tech pumper with slinky hi-hat designs, smart filters and bass-driven drums. As always with this powerhouse, the subtle production details really elevate this one into a standout cut.

Review: Chateau Chepere's fourth outing is another blissed-out bit of sunrise material that carefully accompanies dancers from a darkened dance floor out into the light. Zurich's underground mainstay Eli Verveine kicks off with the zoned-out tones and dusty deep house drums of 'Morning Dub' before Andu Simion & Dragos Roban aka Two Metromaniac Guys then comfort with the dubby, lo-fi deep house of 'Execution Error' with its hazy melodies and leggy bass. 'Daddy Beat' is a percussive beast leaning in on dexterous breaks from less-mined sources and keeping the pressure up around the 130 zone. 'Hold On' nods to Detroit techno in its swirling pads and machine soul bleeps, all the while trucking on a focused rhythmic trajectory. 'Surprise I'm Logan' returns to the drum funk sampling and 'Engage' locks into a distinctive strain of machine funk with plenty of hypnotic motifs and playful fills to turn heads in the midst of a marathon session.

'Dendrite' is first up and rides on a slick electro rhythm with silky arps bringing cosmic vibes over the more textured bass. 'Calcite' then takes a deeper path with rubbery house kick and dubby chords making for a molten backroom vibe. On the flip side, Christopher Ledger steps up to collaborate on 'Silica' which is another super persuasive deep house groove with stylish drums and irresistible swing. Cristi Cons remixes 'Calcite' into a balmy and diffuse cosmic house cruiser.

Review: Background is a Rimini-based label which specialises in slinky, playful strains of minimal tech house from some emergent names well worth keeping tabs on. Alex Dima has certainly earned his stripes as a name to get you checking the record, and his opening track 'Twisted' offers the mysterious synth touches and boxy drum machines beats we've come to expect, while Luca Piermattei lays down some seriously satisfying trance-minded melodic lines to loosen the crowd up good and proper. Munir Nadir is in an equally artful, inquisitive mood as he fires off the interlocking riffs and licks of 'Guinea' and then Smoud Beats completes the picture with a diversion into shaky, 90s-styled acid for the jacker in your life.

Here the Chicago house legend pitches up on Dam Swindle's Heist Recordings label for the very first time. He begins in deep and dreamy mode via the punchy drums, wide-eyed vocal snippets and sumptuous string loops of 'Love Can Make It Happen', before slamming down some breathlessly brilliant 'bompty beats' and sleazy acid bass on the brilliant 'Going Back To It'. His ability to work short loops into a frenzy of heads-down and hands-aloft dancing comes to the fore on 'Full Cycle', while 'Pockets' is a breeze of brilliantly programmed, loose-limbed house beats, vocal stabs and wonderfully deep chords.

Review: Turkish producer Barut debuts four new minimal tech tools for Sintope's offshoot vinyl series. The 'Antelia' EP starts out functionally enough, but grows increasingly dreamy and awestruck as it progresses. We begin with the expository FM funk of 'Ilanto Zur', but before long find ourselves submerged in the far larger, nigh-gargantuan stellar planes of 'Ramana'. Finally, closer 'Antelia' is a relative curveball in sound compared to the earlier tunes, deftly working in ethereal vocal improv and swelling Vangelis pads into a beautiful electrance sendoff.

It is a heady mix of techno styles starting with the adventure that is 'Comex'. This one rides on snappy drums and snare petters, with acid lines gurgling away up top next to twitchy stabs that keep the vibes alive. 'Yaw' takes a different approach - it's a more fair-sighted and introspective affair with balmy pads circling around the smooth grooves. Two timeless grooves for different moments in the night.

'Acid Matrix' has an early Detroit feel to its raw machine handclap snares and panther-like, stalking bassline, while 'Deep Tech' might be geographically closer to late 80s, early 90s Yorkshire, a compulsive funkiness emerging from its bleepcentric soundscape. 'Service Chamber' is sleeker and more mellow, telephone dial tones spiralling off into the ether while tinkling, xylophone-sounded keys play hypnotically. Choice, quality material that will help any DJ to subtly pick the pace up as the sun falls.

Review: Lempuyang makes it to release number 15 with a devastatingly deep new EP from Deepchord co-founder Mike Schommer. He kicks off with 'Scapegoat' featuring the alluring vocals of Milly James which echo out over super slow-motion dub rhythms and icy pads. The Pole rework brings more crisp hits and distant eerie drones over a more pronounced rhythm but one that remains devilishly sparse. On the flip, 'Deceivers' has more hypotonic drive - a fleshy dub stepper to lock in any 'floor and then 'Believers' slows it down to a crawl once more. An essential dub EP that promises no represses.

Review: Fresh off the back of his superb new album, Voigtmann is back with an equally juicy new 12" on Half Baked, a party crew with which he has a long association. His intricate minimal style is laid bare here from the off with 'Aesthetic Solutions' offering up a colourful mix of trippy sound designs and sci-fi moods over slick tech drum programming. 'California Cruise Control' gets deeper, with a more prominent squelchy bassline taking centre stage. 'Underexposure' then ups the ante with a more cosmic and driving techno sound and last of all is 'Areola 51', another one built from silky loops and futuristic synths over crisp tech house beats.

Review: After debuting on Kaizenrecordsberlin back in 2020, Gauvain finally makes a second appearance with this sure-footed EP for Shaque & DJ Tjizza's Berlin-based label Mood Waves. There's a sense of the trancey tech house scene in the playful threads running through these tracks - cheeky synth lines with a little wriggle to them and plenty of ear-catching samples. 'Suspended Animation' is an especially flamboyant cut, but really they're all out to bring a little naughtiness to the dancefloor and inspire some sharply defined figures to be thrown. Even when things get moodier on 'The Pier, 1962', there's an irrepressible sense of fun which leaves a lasting impression.

Review: Lion & Lamb is the pub turned cult club in London that hosts special sessions from some of London's key electronic tastemakers such as Craig Richards, Radioactive Man, Butter Side Up and plenty more. In 2020 it launched a label that is as just as essential and Henry Hyde is next up complete the one release a year schedule it has favoured so far. He offers four tracks of froward thinking tech house starting with the full throttle funk of 'Approaching The Peak' then much more dubby and stripped back 'My Machine Walks'. 'Return To The Summit' takes off into the cosmos on fluttering synth leads and 'Over Cloud' is the trippiest of the lot with watery droplets and crispy percussion.

Kolter leads the charge with the full-fat, punchy 90s stylings of ‘New Generation’ before Agustin Barbei brings some sassy energy to the table on the shoulder-shaking ‘Altare’. Henry Hyde shifts the focus to broken beat rhythms without losing the upfront melodies on his cut ‘Covered In Purple’, and Wink drops some cheeky organ chords and boxy drums aplenty on ‘Cod, Chips N Curry Sauce’. Review: Jay Tripwire's My Life With The Machines compilation series is doing a terrific job of showcasing some of the umpteen early noughties gems buried in his catalogue and archive of unreleased jams. This is volume four (the first three instalments dropped in 2022) and features seven more slabs of intergalactic, wide-eyed, dub-fired tech-house treats. He begins with a sumptuously spacey and loved-up rework of Mothersole & Haris's 'Dumbek', before adding echoing sax sounds and dubbed-out organ lines to a heady early morning groove on 'What Kind of Voodoo Do You Do?', an alternate take on one of his most admired tribal-tinged tracks from 2002. Other highlights include the ultra-deep after-party excellence of 'Smoothin' It Out', the heads-down excellence of 'Smooth Swimmers (Swag Unreleased)' and the warming shuffle of 'Geometry'.

Review: Tech house might be a much-maligned genre these days but once upon a time it was seriously hot shit. That time happened to be when Terry Francis was at the top of his game back in the mid-90s. The UK pioneering very much helped to shape the early sound of the genre as a producer but also a DJ with his legendary sets at Wiggle and Fabric. This ongoing compilation series is now up to a fourth volume of hits from the main man and the quality remains as high as ever. This part focuses on his work from the mid-90s to the early 00s, and all of it is class as they mix up tech, acid, house and more into pure dance floor fire.

'Search & Discover' is a great mix of serious tech drums, characterful robo-vocals and withering melodies that has something for everyone. 'Keep Bustin' will indeed keep you busting moves with its garage tinged house shuffle and jazzy chord work while its the leggy, rubbery bassline funk of 'You Can Have It All' that provides the EP's highlight. His sound taps right into what is hot right now - spaced out breaks, tech and minimal. 'Round & Round' is a vocal laced broken beat tech cut with slamming drums. 'Talkie Walkie' closes out with a more busy and trippy mix of synths and percussion.

Review: Nemo Vachez's debut album Forest III is a great statement of his studio mastery across 12 tracks that span space house, dark funk and minimal. His approach to rhythm is spare and he often constructs his grooves from fragments, loops and stripped-back kicks. Plenty of evocative details from police sirens to glowing bell hits add colour and charm and there is a futuristic sense to every tack here - the melodies are serene and clean, bright and hi-fi. It all adds up to a compelling journey from the Frenchman.

On the A -Side we hear Beksi's trademark minimal techfunk with 'Impress Me', which delivers lilting stabs against a skeletal yet weighty beat backdrop. The pressure is on, in that case, to follow that up with a second release that makes just as much impact and the label passes the test with flying colours with a various artists' collection featuring some big names. Chief amongst them are Detroit don John Beltran with his scintillating hi-tek soul workout 'Canarias', and Bohm with the densely woven synth layers and dusty drum programming over the gorgeous 'Tactical Options!' Add in the more hard edge drums of 'Metropolitan Soul Museum's 'Negative Mouth', the melodic elegance of 'Bankastraat' and the acid madness of Tramic's 'Lanterns' and you have a vital 12".

Bakked's focus lies on seedy, sinewy tech house informed by Italo and Giallo soundtracks, so there's plenty of ghoulish soundtrack poise and throbbing arp action on the likes of 'Almost Machine'. The synths are thick and gloopy, the drums boxy and brash, and there's all the peaks and troughs you could wish for from a modern dancefloor filler, making this the perfect demonstration of future-past freakery. Look out for the acid flex on 'Abitudine' and the slow tempo sleaze of 'Channel8', which will get the chugger crowd hot under the collar.

We don't know who is behind the beats but they sure do know their way around a studio: 'AAA001A' is super silky minimal with deft claps and hits scattered over a smooth tech house beat with swirling vocals up top. 'BBB001B' then layers up off-grid hits and tumbling synths, glitchy percussion and a loopy beat into something that is loose yet dynamic and last of all 'BBB002B' takes off on a crushing groove with warped and smeared vocal samples adding some late night trippiness.

Review: Traumer's ever-astute label curation comes to the forefront once again as Priku and Dinu team up for a standout release drawing on their talents in the field of minimal tech house. 'Distopic' leads the way as a crafty hint towards the strutting energy of disco within a focused techno framework, not so much a minimal workout as a lean slice of four-to-the-floor synth pressure. 'Stereo Eyes II' keeps up the energy, but this time there's a mystical, sundown set vibe at play which conjures the early Goa scene as much as any influence. For remixes, Singer was invited to remix 'Distopic' and turn it into a bumping, dubby joint, while Traumer dials the track in deep for a perfectly described 'Dusty Dub'.

Here it is also the name of a four-track EP that finds the long time UK underground operative working alongside fellow British techno luminary Mark Broom on a quartet of devastating cuts. 'Ringer' opens up with some dark and nimble baselines darting about beneath a dense layer of percussion and FX. 'Hoppa' is then a more precise and minimalist cut with wonky bass snaking down low beneath the icy hi-hats and jumbled toms. There is a warm dub depth to 'Hot Pot' to kick off the flip and 'Beach Club' shuts down with a restless mix of synth daubs and deft percussion over an ice cold groove.

Sharks be damned, the Cat Groove 12" is back within reach and remastered to bring the best out of the tracks. The title track is one of those artfully squashed, funk loop-riding jams that turns the heat up without any need for studio showboating - just the right ingredients. 'Floating Around' is a heady tripper crying out for the morning, while 'Hook Up' finds another soulful lick to place at the centre of a groove so crunchy it just has to come from an MPC. Hold tight for 'Warehouse Blues', which injects some nasty, pumping techno energy into the mix with a metallic bassline that comes on like Mr Fingers dipped in chrome.

Remember
What If?
Review: The Don is the man born Maryvn Don. He has been seeing up cultured house and tech sounds since the early 00s and some of them have been getting welcome reissues of late. We have another here in the form of 'Remember' which is seriously high quality and designed purely for dance floors. Up first is 'Remember' which is an intense mix of bleeping synths and sci-fi designs over hurried drums and bass. 'What If?' then rides a classic 90s tech house groove with snappy snares and wispy little pads macing for an intriguing late night vibe that will get floors locked right in.

Stripped (M Groove mix)
Review: The latest on Djebali's label comes from M High, who knows exactly how to step up to the flavour of Parisian minimal tech house Djebali has made his name on all these years. 'Try To Make' is a perfect opener, riding on a sweetly swung groove with heavy, subby bass down low and Mood II Swing style dub chords chopping in up top. 'Othirty' is a more delicate affair with some psychedelic sound sweeps which really elevate the track into exciting new realms - something which could send an after hours dance spiralling. 'Stripped' locks back into that heads-down bounce from the first track and then the 'M Groove' mix of the track slips some extra funky percussion into the blend to make it a sassy strutter for the ages.

Review: AGT is back on their own self titled label for a fifth time and a fine fifth transmission. 'Sun D' is a four tracker that sits in between the worlds of house, tech and minimal with its own unique style. 'Track 1' is a bouncy one that has fleshy leads and fulsome bass all bouncing along at a fair old lick. 'Track 2' has cosmic flair with its flashy arps lighting up the percussive drums and surging forwards on waves of good time vibes. 'Track 3' is another full bodied party cut with lithe synths and big stabs then 'Track 4' closes out with a hefty house thump and garage-influenced snares that get the floor going.

All You Need
Organ Transplant
Review: Sound of the Suburbs steps up to Mopheus here with a 12" that very much makes us what to move into their hub is this is what goes down. 'Beautifly' kicks off and is a perfect intersection of dub, tech and house with smartly programmed drums and weighty low ends kept nimble by sleek synths and samples. The energy levels are raised on 'All You Need' which has more percussion, more peaky little synth motifs and a more potent rhythm while 'Organ Transplant' then slows down a touch and brings a squeaky and alien bassline to some piano laced grooves.

Review: Dutch powerhouse Pascal Benjamin is back at it following his recent appearance on Constant Black, this time settling into a comfortable groove on Aku. 'Vision Error' is a refined club tool bristling with metallic energy and a deadly amount of low end presence, while 'Mirage' toys with hypnagogic whisps of melody and tripped out samples. 'I Guess No' is a dreamier cut with playful percussion and an after hours vibe, and 'Coriolis' finishes the record off with rubbery bass and some extravagant synth flourishes that will make for a standout moment in the midst of any minimal tech house set.

Dragomir - "Revision"
RQZ - "Panavision"
Vid - "Oceans"
Selidos - "Malina Fields"
Review: Milan-based minimal label Micro Orbit has been busy kicking off a range of various artist series' in recent times, with the first Pioneer and Voyager EPs now followed up by Vol 1 of the Origins Series. As ever it's a chance to get a spectrum of the label's musical interests under your belt, with Dragomir setting the tone perfectly with the crisp, tool-like hypnotism of 'Revision'. RQZ has a fuller sound underpinned by warm bass and peppered with sound design, but the script is still resoundingly stripped back on 'Panavision'. Romanian stalwart Vid occupies the B-side with two different tracks - the slinky groover 'Oceans' and the shuffling, tripped-out 'Malina Fields'.
