Review: Word is that when the Cramps played their live gig at Santa Monica Civic on 15th August 1980 in Los Angeles, (which was also broadcast live on the radio) the place was packed. The crowd was hot and sweaty and ready to rock. The sounds here suggested they got what they wanted - they are live, loud, urgent and punchy with amps scattered all around the venue to really pack a sonic punch. The angry but playful set list takes in plenty of classics from 'Goo Goo Muck' to 'Teenage Werewolf'.

Even if you have never managed to catch them in real life, you can now experience the thrill of them playing on stage with yet another essential live album. Cracked Reflection: Live At The Ontario Theater Washington DC 1984 November 16th is a super limited edition red vinyl double album that finds the band playing plenty of their lesser known tunes such as 'Piggy In The Mirror' and 'The Hanging Garden' though all-time favourite 'Boys Don't Cry' does appear later on.

This limited edition version comes on coloured vinyl and is of excellent sound quality as it was done via soundboard. The set list is none stop and packed with breath-taking jams, exhilarating musicianship and of course plenty of the famous feedback which defined their sound and turned a generation onto its charms in their wake. Review: Joy Division sure do sound great on record but they were also one of those bands that really nailed their live shows. One such occasion was on 19th April 1980 at Derby's Andante Theatre. The band was already well known and widely loved by then but they still insisted on playing what you might call shit-hole venues around the UK. This show was broadcast on the radio and it includes classics like the melancholic rawness of 'Insight' and other gems such as 'She's Lost Control' and a cover of Factory labelmates' Section 25's 'Girls Don't Count.' A live album well worth having.

Review: The Sisters of Mercy had been touting their wares on tour and through a stream of singles by the time they headlined the legendary Teatro Espero in Rome. But 1985 - the year of the performance - was a pivotal one for the English band. Debut album First and Last and Always had just landed to critical acclaim, confirming what the outfit could do on a long-form record. Of course, in many ways, we already knew it - the group's live shows had garnered a reputation for inimitable and epic experiences, regardless of how big the room was. 1985's tour was something of a culmination of both sides, then, and judging by this account-on-album the results were as captivating as they were commanding.
