What is a dildo?

Welcome Dildo Disciple to Dildo 101, and I’ll answer all your burning questions (PSA – your dildo should never burn!) Today we’re going to run through dildo trivia so you don’t have to wonder why It’s called a dildo, who invented the dildo, and even the use of the dildo!

We’ll start with some basics, then move on to more advanced niche knowledge for the most diligent dildo owners.

What is a dildo and what is it used for?

A penis is a penis toy that provides internal stimulation primarily in the vagina or anus. However, they are versatile and you can also use them for external stimulation or to simulate oral sex. You can enjoy alone, with a partner or multiple partners.

A dildo stimulates nerve endings in the vagina or anal canal and around the opening as it moves in and out of the vagina or anus, similar to the sensation of a penis inserted during intercourse. They can also stimulate the G-spot in vagina patients or the prostate (P-spot) in penis owners, both of which are highly sensitive areas that can trigger orgasm when stimulated.

What does a dildo look like?

They come in a dizzying array of shapes, sizes, colors and materials, and there are many different types for different purposes.

Some take the form of a real penis with vivid details, such as carved heads, convex veins, balls, etc. Others are more abstract in design, ranging from minimalist to fantasy. There is definitely a dildo for every aesthetic!

Who would use a dildo?

In short, anyone who wants it can! Because of its versatility, anyone can use a dildo regardless of their gender or genitals. You can use them to penetrate the anus or vagina, stimulate the clitoris or perineum, or have oral sex. The only rule is that if you want to penetrate the anus with it, it must have a flared base to prevent it from entering your body. Always remember the motto of anal toys:

There is no basis, no trace.

What is the difference between a dildo and a vibrator?

The main difference is that a dildo is especially a penis-shaped object, whereas a vibrator can be any shape. Also, some vibrators, such as bullet vibrators or stick vibrators, are for external use only. However, there is some overlap between the two, so why not combine two truly great sources of stimulation! There are many different types of powered dildos, including vibrating dildos and even some that have their own thrust! If you want more information, we have a whole article on the difference between dildo and vibrator.

What are dildos made of?

Dildos have long been made of everything from stone to stale bread. Fortunately, we have come a long way with the materials we have available. However, due to the lack of regulations, there are still some very bad materials. So it’s helpful to know a little bit when buying sex toys! Here are a few things you need to know about buying a body-safe dildo:

Materials to avoid:

Jelly, rubber, and PVC can contain harmful chemicals that can seep into your body or damage the sensitive skin on your genitals. They are also porous, providing the perfect place for bacteria and mold to grow and multiply, and they degrade quickly. If you are interested, you can take a look at the hazards of PVC and jelly.

TPE and TPR are non-toxic, but they are porous. Since you can’t completely clean porous toys, I recommend that you also avoid insertable toys made of TPR/TPE.

The best material for safe and sexy satisfaction.

All these materials are non-porous and non-toxic. You can even sterilize them by boiling them, as long as they don’t have any electrical parts!

What else can you use besides a dildo?

If you’re in the mood but don’t have a dildo handy, you might want to grab the first penis-like object within reach to tickle. But this may not be a safe choice! When we’re highly excited, our inhibitions are lower, which means we may make riskier decisions, like pleasing ourselves with a poor defenseless banana! However, using something unsafe can lead to some serious infections and even sticking.

If you don’t own a dildo, here are some other things you can use.

Make an ice dildo – perfect for playing the exciting temperature game and keeping cool on hot summer days. Note that this is not anal safe.

Make your own dildo. We do not recommend making your own sex toys, do so at your own risk. Buying special sex toys is always the safest option. Check out these cheap options!

Use your fingers or other sex toys!
